Inconel 625 (UNS N06625) provides 827 MPa minimum tensile strength and superior resistance to seawater and chloride stress corrosion cracking, making it the stronger choice for marine and structural applications. Hastelloy C-276 (UNS N10276) delivers 690 MPa tensile strength but offers broader acid resistance, particularly excelling in hydrochloric acid (HCl) and sulfuric acid (H2SO4) service where it outperforms virtually all other alloys.

Higher mechanical strength is required (827 vs 690 MPa tensile), the application involves seawater or chloride environments, weldability is important, or high-temperature structural performance up to 982°C is needed. Common applications: subsea oil & gas, marine hardware, chemical processing vessels, flue gas desulfurization, and aerospace exhaust systems.
Resistance to a broad range of aggressive acids is the primary concern, particularly reducing acids like HCl and H2SO4. C-276 is one of the few alloys that resists hydrochloric acid at all concentrations. Common applications: chemical processing (HCl/H2SO4 service), pollution control, pulp & paper, pharmaceutical equipment, and flue gas scrubbers.
