Duplex (1.4462 / UNS S31803) has a two-phase microstructure of ferrite and austenite. This makes the material extremely strong and highly resistant to stress corrosion cracking and pitting. Super Duplex (1.4410) offers even higher performance for extremely aggressive environments.
Duplex stainless steel combines the best properties of ferritic and austenitic stainless steel. It is twice as strong as 316 stainless steel.
Super Duplex has a higher chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen content, resulting in even higher corrosion resistance (PREN > 40) and strength than standard Duplex.
Yes, unlike austenitic stainless steel (like 304/316), Duplex is magnetic due to the ferritic portion in the structure.
We produce specials and turned parts in Duplex and Super Duplex (1.4462 / 1.4410) to your specification.
For the toughest conditions, Duplex and Super Duplex are a frequently requested choice. Send us your drawing or specification, then we will produce your part to order.
